Professor Guang-Rong Shi Visits Nanjing University for Academic Exchange

From September 1 to October 10, 2024, Professor Guang-Rong Shi, Head of the School of Earth, Atmospheric and Life Sciences at the University of Wollongong, visited Nanjing University. Invited by Prof. Shuzhong Shen and Prof. Yukun Shi from the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering (SESE).

During his visit, Prof. Shi brought a collection of valuable brachiopod fossils and guided students on brachiopod taxonomy. Additionally, he attended field trips to Hubei, Sichuan, and Xinjiang, where they collected amounts of Permian samples, laying the groundwork for future collaborative research.

Prof. Shi conducted two three-hour lectures titled "How to Write a Scientific Paper and Get It Published? " and "Tectonobiogeography: Principles, Methods, and Applications", both attracted lots of participants from SESE and relative departments, and engaging warmly discussions.

Prof. Shi also had extensive discussions with Prof. Shen's team regarding the establishment of a brachiopod database, held cutting-edge paleobiogeographical studies, and also the feasibility of an international undergraduate field course in 2026 to foster students' global perspectives and research capabilities. This exchange deepened the academic ties between China and Australia, laying a solid foundation for future collaborations.
